The Sacredness of Being: Body and Nature

Adrift somewhere

within & beyond this seamless cosmos.

you sleep on top of the covers

a knee in the air

the length of your nakedness

angular as a drawn bow

your contours, my home.

Remember when

we were new to one another

reverent and expectant in the redwoods

your impulse to shed the coverings of self

unabashedly noble, holy unclothed

nothing between you

me and the trees

Another time

in the Grand Canyon dawn

you stood origin-al

a man washed in first light

newborn tender

kissed flesh lit within

panorama of earth and sky

78 years enfleshed – you, lover

familiar as my own skin met

and fitted, to move, to rest

to worship with mine

in rhythm & responsiveness

earthy animal bodies

incarnating experience

each a temple of the Divine Beloved
